Nourish Your Gut

Our body is made up of 100 trillion cells, often referred to as the 'microbiome'. Most of these cells are in the form of good and bad bacteria, with most of them living in your gut.

Keeping a healthy gut helps support good digestion, which in turn helps support a healthy immune system. With the stress and strain of modern life, not to mention frequently poor diet, this wonderful system needs all the help it can get. One of the best ways we can help is by maintaining a healthy balance of good gut bacteria.

We know is sounds a bit daunting but supporting our good gut bacteria is pretty easy and affordable! A great way to start is by replacing some of the overly processed foods we all eat, with naturally simple foods like fresh veggies and proteins.

We've popped together some of our favourite simple daily food swaps that will help boost your gut happiness.

Breakfast - Green Smoothie
Smoothies are a great way of getting lots of fibre and a variety of fruit and veg in one sitting! We throw a handful of spinach in a blender with a whole orange, a squeeze of lime, two mint leaves and 50g almonds for protein. Super tasty and the almonds will help keep you feeling full for longer.

Lunch - Butternut Squash & Sweet Potato Salad
A salad is another great way to pack your plate with plant power. Roast or boil butternut squash and sweet potato to add to your normal salad recipe. Both contain vitamin A, which is a vital nutrient to help build a healthy gut. Then choose to either add chicken or sprinkle with walnuts for your protein portion.

Dinner - Courgetti Bolognese
Removing refined carbohydrates from your diet doesn't mean you have to give up your favourite meals. Packed with veggies and protein, simply swapping spaghetti for courgetti (strips of courgette) means you can still enjoy this classic family dish. Check out our recipe here.

Don't forget to try a delicious mint tea after eating, which is already a well known aid to good digestion.
