KEEP CALM, THE BANK HOLIDAY IS HERE!

KEEP CALM, THE BANK HOLIDAY IS HERE!

Guess what, our gut microbes don’t actually like stress. And quite frankly, neither do we! But staying calm all the time is not always possible in our daily lives, so we’ve put together these 3 simple steps to help generate a sense of wellbeing that are easy to incorporate into your daily life.

1. Take a deep breath.
It may be an oldie but taking a deep breath slows the heart rate and feeds oxygen to the brain. Taking a slow, deep breath helps to stop our brains entering into fight-or-flight mode during a stressful situation and helps to focus the mind and bring about a sense of wellbeing. Try it whenever you start to feel anxious or you’re having trouble concentrating.

2. Take a little stroll.
Walking boosts endorphins, which can reduce stress hormones and alleviate that doom and gloom feeling. Try taking a 10-minute walk outside by yourself during your lunch hour. Doing this regularly can improve overall mood and boost self-esteem.

3. What’s in your lunchbox?
Avoiding sugar and heavy foods will help to beat that sleepy I’d-rather-be anywhere-other-than-here-right-now feeling we can get in the afternoons. Pre-preparing your lunchbox can have a positive affect on your mood and your wallet! Try salads with sweet potato or quinoa and lots of leafy greens and protein like salmon or chicken breast. Bananas are great for keeping blood sugar levels stable and if you want to snack – coconut! It’s a great source of energy as it contains a type of fat that is turned into energy quickly rather than being stored in the body.

So there you have it, 3 steps to a calmer and more contented workday.
